7月24日呉軍港空襲で呉港外(情島沖)で米軍空母機の波状攻撃を受け、大破着底。戦後の1947年7月、解体が完了してその波乱の艦歴を閉じた。
There
is one of the mainunits of whatever was a powerful Jap Navy. This is
resting on the bottom at Hiro Wan, only a short distance from where we
were anchared there. We took a trip over to see it one day, and it is
really in sad shape. It was bombed and sunk by third Fleet planes ealy
this year. It is about half submerged as you can see by looking at its
guns. Only about the middle thirdy it can be seen here. The front of it
is to the left of the picture. Notice how chuttered up its'
superstructure is. That is charactristic of all Jap combat ships. This
is one ship that will never batter the U.S. again.
