Achievements
The first Japanease went on
to open commercial photography studio, in
Nagasaki in 1862.
The first photographer in the field of legal
medicine, taking photo of British sailer killed
by a samurai of Chikuzen in 1867.
The first astronomical photographer on
observations of the planet Venus in Nagasaki in
1874.
The first photojournalist , in the
"SEINAN-NO-EKI": Satsuma Rebellion of 1877.
"Seimikyoku Hikkei," a science handbook, wrote
with HORIE Kuwajiro in 1862.
He has taken many portraits of samurai,
foreigners and landscape.
He opened branch studios in Vladivostok (in
1890), Hong
Kong (in 1891) and Shanghai
(in 1891). Mentor to many students who went on
to become prominent photographers.
