4.Completely demolished was the huge Mitsubishi Steel and Arms Works in the southern end of  the industrial valley. With the torped plant in the north it was the  principal target. Bomb No. 3 struck midway between and scored a bull's-eye in raizing both.

A JAPANESE FAMILY EATS THEIR MEAL OF  RICE IN CRUDE SHACK THEY BUILT FROM WRECKAGE LEFT ON SPOT WHERE THEIR HOME ONCE STOOD IN NAGASAKI. ATOM BOMB DROPPED ON AUGUST 9 FLATTENED THEIR HOUSE, IN BLAST THAT WRECKED 18,000 BUILDINGS, KILLED 25,000 PEOPLE.

8/31 A mass of  melted and twisted  steel girders is all that is left of industrial , section of  Nagasaki after it was hit by the atomic bomb. Numerous smokestacks were left standing . U.S.Navy Radio-telephoto. ACME TELEPHOTO.


NAGASAKI JAPAN SAILORS SEE  A-BOMB RUINS--With tests on the A-bomb imminent U. S. Navy men in Japan take great interest in visiting the bomb-devastated city of Nagasaki. Torpedo factory ruins at Nagasaki show the terrible effect of the bomb had on a steel-framed building. This is the 2nd in a series of 3 pix.

(NY8-Aug 9) SHIPYARD AT  NAGASAKI - THIS IS THE VIEW OF THE TATEGAMI SHIPYARD OF MITSUBISHI HEAVY INDUSTRIES AT NAGASAKI. THE JAPANEASE PORT ON KYUSHU  ISLAND WHICH  WAS HIT TODAY BY THE SECOND ATMIC BOMB TO BE DROPPED ON A JAPANEASE CITY. NAGASAKI :THE SECOND JAPANEASE CITY TO FEEL THE FURY OF THE ATOMIC BOMB STILL SHOWS MANY SCARS 4 YEARS AFTER THE DREAD MISSILE FOUND ITS MARK ON AUG. 9, 1945. THE SINGLE BOMB, WHICH EXPLODED 1,500 FEET IN THE AIR, DESTROYED EVERYTHING OVER A 4-MILE AREA, KILLING 24,000 AND WOUNDING 40,000. THE NAGASAKI  NATURAL GAS WORKS (ABOVE) IS OPERATING NORMARLLY NOW AS THE RUINS GIVE WAY TO NEW STRUCTURES.

8/9/67 NAGASAKI , JAPAN: Residents of  Nagasaki kneel in scilent prayer in observance of  the 22nd anniversary of the atomic bombing the city 8/9 in which 73,000 were killed in the blast. At the public ceremony, attended by 5,000 persons, Mayor Yoshitake Morotani read a declaration of peace. UPI RADIOTELEPHOTO


AUG. 9. 1966 NAGASAKI, JAPAN: Large floral wreaths are piled up in front of the Statue of  Peace Prayer in the Peace Park here 8/9 while pigeons fly over the area. The sence was a memorial service for these killed in the atomic bombing of Nagasaki 8/9/45.

The ruins of the Urakami Cathedral in Nagasaki, located 500 meters from the epicenter of the atomic bombing on August 9, 1945.
Nagasaki was the Japanese center of Catholicism, and 15,000 Catholics were concentrated in this area at the time of explosion. About 10,000 are thougt to have died instantly. This photo appears for the first time in HIROSHIMA AND NAGASAKI, a scientific report on the effects of the bildings, which will be the published this month.
